This is the first bench test of the speedometer/odometer I just finished building for my bicycle. An Atmel AVR 8bit microcontroller is used for processing the data from the hall effect sensor and driving the display.
The code is available through my mercurial repository here: https://nuclear.mutantstargoat/hg/bicycle_odometer/
Schematics: nuclear.mutantstargoat/hw/odometer/odometer_schem.png
Note 1: the microcontroller is actually an ATmega168
Note 2: I eventually exchanged the LM7805 voltage regulator with UCC383-5, a pin-compatible low-dropout regulator from texas instruments. 9v batteries drop to about 6.5v very quickly at which point the LM7805 can't sustain a 5v output any more.
Note 3: The sensor is actually Allegro A1302, a ratiometric linear hall effect sensor.
Sorry for the crappy sound quality, it got ed up during video editing and I can't be bothered to find out what's wrong and do it again....
